After upgrade to lenny in June 2009, the estonian keyboard layout doesn’t work in gnome or GTK.
- Observations:
the keyboard is a no-brand with 105 keys (Generic-105-keys)
after system startup using the automatic user the layout in Gnome is always US
the problem does not occur when the automatic user option is switched off.
Doing Ctrl-Alt-F1 (going to a non-X console) reveals that there is works.
Going to System > Preferences > Keyboard and changing something there (be it just the sort order or adding another layout) will activate the estonian layout.
The option “Layout Switching” is set to “Both Ctrl keys together change layout”, but this seems to have no effect.
- I found a similar problem reported by a canadian user:
His first trick, dpkg-reconfigure console-data, doesn’t change anything.
Next try as suggested by 987687 » 2009-07-26 in above thread:
xkbmap ee in a terminal: works
edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and in Section “InputDevice”, change: * Option “XkbModel” from pc104 to pc105 * Option XkbLayout from us to ee
This worked for me. So I’m more fortunate than the Canadian user
